Hupo, this was brilliant! I loved how you involved so many aspects of the Global Village, the rascally villagers, and the kink scene in general! A couple of the clues really stumped me (e.g., “tuning fork girl” was tricky :D), but I finally solved the puzzle. You worked really hard on that — thanks for sharing it! πŸ™‚

    • Hupotasso says:

I’m so glad you liked it, Alyx! It’s the first crossword puzzle I ever put together and at first I wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull it off. Once I found that crossword puzzle hosting website, the process became a lot easier.

BTW. I think that “Tuning Fork Girl” once posted that others had used that nickname for her in summer camp when she was a kid.

    • Hupotasso says:

Also, Alyx- Thanks so much for adding the really cool graphic!

  2. Ash says:

Great gift, Hupo! πŸ˜€ I really enjoyed that. Though… I had too look up some names to see how they were spelled and I was completely stuck on 36 down.

    • Ash says:

Ah… I get it… Lol. Well I finished! πŸ˜€ It was a little tricky, Hups. But then again, that’s what makes it fun. πŸ˜›

    • Hupotasso says:

Thanks, Ash! I think that clue is a description that originated with Loki; I always thought it was a great line but Loki deserves credit for it.

      • Alyx says:

*LOL!* I didn’t know what Ash was referring to till I went to check it out. Yes, you’re right — Loki came up with that phrase. And if the paddle fits… πŸ˜€

  3. Tenth Muse Top says:

What a gift!!! Kudos to Hupo!!! You just happened to combine my favourite tipple *with* my favourite poet, so forget A+, this Top is marking your submission as *Genius* (And I bet that’s a first. πŸ˜‰ *bg*) (I -of course- remembered which book in my Library you were referring to… It didn’t take *cough* that long, so I wasn’t panicky about short-term memory loss or anything. *phew*)

    Thanks Hupo!

    • Hupotasso says:

Thank’s TMT! (I’d never have guessed you’d turn out to be such an easy grader. ;))

It makes me really happy to know that you and some others have enjoyed it! πŸ™‚

  4. Micah says:

Wow! I didn’t realize my memory was so bad. Your ability to remember such details is amazing! My pen name was one of the few I could get immediately and by the time I was trying to get those connected to it I was beginning to think I was wrong!
    Great gift Hupo!

    • Micah says:

OH shoot! I really WAS wrong with my own pen name! I wrote down Anna Porter instead of Anna Reilly! (shaking my head)

      • Hupotasso says:

LOL. Thanks Micah! If it makes you feel any better, when I was thinking up clues, I had to look up a number of things, especially to check on spellings. (But your pen name was NOT one of them. πŸ™‚ )

  5. Hupotasso says:

ARGHHH! I’m so annoyed at myself! I apologize for spelling the answer to “7 Across” (clue: Xanthippe’s apprentice) incorrectly by adding an “H” where one does NOT belong. Unfortunately, I can’t fix it without throwing off the rest of the puzzle. So… When answering that clue, I guess you should try to guess where an idiot would incorrectly add an extra “H” and then go ahead and add it. (I don’t know what else to suggest. RATS!)

(Who knew one also needs a beta reader to check crossword clues, and not “just” when writing a short story.)

And a special sincere apology to the person whose writing “inspired” the clue in the first place.

    Hupo

    • Ash says:

Thanks for clearing that up, Hups! πŸ˜€ I was going to ask, but then I thought “Ash, don’t be an ass. Hupo has spent a lot of time on this! Suck it up, brat.” *LOL* πŸ™‚
It wasn’t a huge mistake, it would have worked out anyway… it was just a little confusing. I checked Bijou’s story several times and after carefully monitoring my sight, I came to the conclusion it was just a little mistake and I should just ignore it. πŸ˜›

  6. Peach says:

    Hey Hupo,
It took a while but I finally solved it! πŸ™‚ A lot of fun and I agree with the others that you have an amazing memory. This was a very creative idea and I bet it must’ve taken quite an effort to make it. Muchas gracias for such a special gift!
Oh also glad Cat and Lizzy made an appearance. lol

  7. Hupotasso says:

Thanks, Peach! (Ya know, my memory is not that great– at least not for IMPORTANT stuff!….)

And I hafta confess that it didn’t take me nearly as long to create the puzzle as it would have taken me to write a story. All I really had to do was come up with the words and write clues for them; that crossword puzzle website uses an algorithm to place the words on a crossword puzzle grid. Once I found the website– which was sort of late in the process– it really didn’t take much work at all. (Shhh. Don’t tell anybody.)

  8. bystander says:

Well done Hupo, brilliant creativity. This crossword did make me feel that maybe I’ve been away from the village for a bit too long as I struggled with quite a few clues 😳

  9. Beck says:

I love the crossword Hupo! To think up (and create) a crossword puzzle was a fantastic idea for the exchange. Great job and thanks for sharing!

  10. Mil says:

This was so brilliant, Hups!! Thank you so much! Funny – for a while I 4 down in the 4 across spot, and couldn’t for the life of me get what vegetable starting with ‘H’ is Mil’s favourite!! Lol.

  11. Hupotasso says:

Thanks, Mil. Actually– when I first thought of the idea of creating a crossword puzzle, that was the first clue that came to my mind. It still cracks me up every time I think of your post in that kinklet. πŸ™‚

  12. kati000 says:

Awesome, Hupo !!!! Fantastic idea and fantastic realization !
I haven’t finished yet and still need to look up quite a few things (like what a tipple is…). It’s great fun ! And it makes me cruise through the stories again. Thanks so much and happy holidays :).

  13. Hupotasso says:

Thanks Kati. (Here’s a hint: when you finish, why not celebrate by enjoying a tipple? ;))

    Happy holidays!

  14. cj says:

Hey Hupo! Great gift! I might be needing to bribe you a bit for some of the answers though? I heard you were easy, ooops I meant cheap? No? Dang what was it that Ash told me to say?! Oh that’s right she said don’t get her in trouble. Dang I guess I screwed that up? Seriously excellent idea! Plus thanks for the idea for next year since I missed the deadline this year.

  15. Hupotasso says:

LOL. Thanks CJ. If you’d like, I can send you a PDF with the answers. Send me an email if you want one. (And BTW, I’m very confident that Alyx will accept submissions until New Year’s Day– hey, rumor has it she accepts them year-round. πŸ˜‰ )

  16. cj says:

Lol Aww Hupo you aren’t letting me off easy are you? Ok ok… I will email you too.*bg*
