One of our own on Blushing Books

And no, I’m not talking this time about the inimitable Loki Renard (aka, Ther). You all probably know she writes there as well, and her stories are definitely some of the best the publisher has to offer. I really enjoyed her Finn the Devourer.

But there is another one of us who has written an F/F story, both romantic and spanky, and I just wanted to mention it because goddess knows that is a tiny genre! The title is “The Babysitter” and the author is Anna Reilly. It’s a hefty novella at over 100 pages, but I stayed up late wanting to finish it in one go. (I didn’t succeed. πŸ˜€ )

Anyway, you can find it here. If you decide to read it, be sure to give the author feedback, as it really is an achievement.

Thanks, Alyx. I got it for my kindle. πŸ˜€

  2. thanatos150 says:

I really need to get PayPal or something.. I’d love to this book, it sounds great! Oh well, sometime in future I probably will make an account, cause I’m getting frustrated by the difficulty I have purchasing things online o.o

  3. lynn says:

    It sounds delicious, Alyx.

  4. sandy1984 says:

Thanks Alyx, it looks great, I’m keeping my copy to enjoy when I’m on holiday.
When you say ‘one of our own’, what exactly do you mean? Is this someone we’re already familiar with who maybe comments here, I’m very curious.

Loved Finn the Devourer too. Bought the printed version and came home from work one day to find my Dad just leaving my house with a pile of books he was borrowing. What do you think was sitting there, bold as brass at the top of the stack but Finn the bloody Devourer! My heart just about stopped…Imagine the fibs I had to tell that day!

    • Alyx says:

Yes, “one of our own” means one of the brats/tops/others who is known among us and has commented on my blog, the SK Forum, etc.! Funny, eh, what hidden talents lie among us? πŸ™‚

ROTFL regarding Finn the Devourer! I can’t even imagine how you managed to pry that book away from him! Maybe you should’ve just let him read it, eh? Then he’d never ask to borrow your books again! πŸ˜† (Or maybe he’d want to even more! *LOL*)

      • Ash says:

What? Is it someone on SKF? 😯

        • Alyx says:

Well, I’m pretty sure that person posted on SKF sometime in its history. There are a lot of people there. πŸ™‚

          • sandy says:

So, are you allowed to tell us who the mystery author is?
I was keeping it until my holiday, but I’m halfway through it now and think I could have a good go at guessing!

          • Ash says:

            So it’s not you? πŸ˜›

          • Alyx says:

No, it’s not me. Trust me, if I had accomplished something like writing a novella and having it published, I would let ALL of you know! *LOL* I would NOT be keeping it a secret! πŸ˜€

Oh, and no, I’m not allowed to say who it is. If that person wants to come out about it, I reckon that person will do so. πŸ™‚

            • Ash says:

Nah it’s not you. I’ve read a bit now, and the style is different. πŸ™‚ I actually think I know who it is… but I’m not gonna make a big deal out of it, seeing as the person probably wants to be anonymous. And of course… just because I think I know who it is… I could still be wrong! Definitely wouldn’t be the first time. πŸ˜›

  5. Micah says:

Thanks for letting us know about the book, Alyx. There are so darn few books out there for us. I’ve read and reread your story section so many times it’s a good thing they are electronic or they would be so dog-eared I would be purchasing new copies by the armful.

  6. Thanks for the heads-up, Alyx – I look forward to reading it. πŸ™‚

  7. Mil says:

Congratulations to the mystery author! Looking forward to reading it!

  8. Peach says:

Thank you for letting us know Alyx! I just finished the Babysitter. Please tell Anna Reilly I really enjoyed reading it! It’s kinda like a spanky romance thriller! πŸ™‚

Moving onto Finn the Devourer. Can’t wait!

PS. I’ve got an inkling who the mystery author might be … lol.
PPS. Anymore of these hidden ff stories somewhere?? heehee

    • Alyx says:

I will pass on the message, Peach. I’m sure the author will be thrilled.

I’m hoping there ARE more hidden stories out there somewhere….everybody listening? Feel free to let us know about it! πŸ˜€

    • Ash says:

Oh Peach, I just finished Finn the Devourer a couple of weeks ago, and I LOVED it. It was one of my favorites by Loki. πŸ˜€

      • Peach says:

OMG, it is so good! I’m blown away. Half way through now and can’t put it down. It’s one of the best!!
And to think I normally don’t even read m/f …

        • Ash says:

Me neither! I had been tempted for so long, but I thought… I kinda hate m/f! But this one was written by Loki though, so I should have reconsidered a lot earlier. πŸ˜€

  9. bahamagirl1996 says:

Thanks for hookin ya girl up with that book Alyx , it was awesome . The only thing I was mad bout was that Abby don’t have the skills to go missin and not get caught right away . I give classes on that dred . I remember when I was little , I was watching my mother fry some chicken and before she could say “well Muddos ” I den swipe one piece and when she ask me if I took it said ” not me mamma ” . Man Alyx , I was so good my mouth wasn’t even greasy , ya girl swallow the thing whole . Like I say babes ” dems the good days ” lol

    • Alyx says:

ROTFL! Bahamagirl, you are hilarious! Your poor mother. πŸ˜† (Bet that fried chicken was good, though. Mmmmm.)

    • Ash says:

Funny, Bahamagirl! XD You must’ve been the biggest trouble maker! Not like me! I was being good.

Hey you guys say “mamma” too? But y’all speak English right?

      • Yea man , we speaka der English lol , among other things

        • Ash says:

Sorry, I just had to ask, because I can be a little dim about countries and what languages they speak. Hehe. When I was younger I thought everyone spoke their country’s language… πŸ˜› But you island people, must have your own like lingo kinda. I think it’s cool how you write. *nod* Though sometimes I need to google. haha But that’s how ya learn. I’ve learned loads of new stuff from your comments.

          • bahamagirl1996 says:

I know what you mean Ash . Like the car game ( you know the one when you are out for a drive and a car goes by and you say that’s mine ) I thought we only did that . As for the language thing , I thought everyone spoke their own too πŸ˜‰

  10. maryk88 says:

Thanks! I loved it! I read it in one sitting! Tell the author she is a great writer for me please! Hope you’re doing well!

    • Alyx says:

Hey Mary, thanks for the feedback and I will pass your comment along. I know the author will be thrilled, and grateful for you taking the time to write. πŸ™‚

I’m doing okay, but very busy. Hope you’re doing well too! πŸ˜€

      • maryk88 says:

Thank you! I am! just busy as well, I just got hired 2 weeks ago as a new Kindergarten teacher and yesterday was the first day (25 4&5 yr olds), boy was it chaotic and so was today…but oh so fun! lol πŸ˜€

  11. bahamagirl1996 says:

Hey Alyx , this has been bordering me for sometime now I was wondering if you could help me with dis. You remember the nursery rhyme that goes ” goosie , goosie gender , where shall I wander . Upstairs and downstairs , in my ladies chamber . There was an old man , who wouldn’t say has prays , they took him by his left leg and throw him down the stairs ” Now I was pondering this for days naw , thinking , why his left leg ? What dat leg do goosie and he boys fer dem to throw him down der man! We need justice for that old man and he leg ! Are you with me ! Goosie gatta GO!

    • Alyx says:

*LOL* Bahamagirl, what have you been smoking over there?? I think you’re thinking too much about that nursery rhyme! Actually, if you start thinking about nursery rhymes, you can find all kinds of scary stuff. Like Rock-a-bye Baby, falling down. Or Georgie-Porgie, making girls cry. Or Humpty Dumpty, all in pieces.

Anyway, I am with you on most anything, sister. But….I do kinda like goosing people. πŸ˜†

      • Ash says:

        Goosing? Is that pranking/bratting? πŸ˜€

        I don’t think I know any nursery rhymes…

        • bahamagirl1996 says:

What ! How come you don’t know nursery rhymes Ash ? Tell ya what google the one I talkin about and you’ll see all kind. The one with the old woman who lives in a shoe got me thinking πŸ˜‰ is she on welfare ? Or all her baby daddies jus need to go on the Maury show so she could give them something to eat besides broth cause dey een had no bread to dip either . Lemme know what you sayin πŸ™‚

          • Ash says:

Ok ok, I read it. Mon, that lady must be on welfare, but she aint usin the moneys on the kids! They live in a shoe, she don’t fed em well, AND she whips em! All her moneys go to pay for her drinks! I am calling Johnny 5-0!

        • Alyx says:

“Goosing” is to pinch or poke someone in the buttocks, Ash. And I was kidding about that — I never do it. Whacking only. *g*

Good example, Bahamagirl: “She whipped them all soundly and put them to bed!” πŸ˜€

          • Ash says:

Yeah I don’t do that… Though I do like to whack buttocks once in a while. Though mostly people whack me!

Who whipped who? Surely they don’t whip people in nursery rhymes? O_o That would give them nightmares!

            • Hey Ash , you know what’s a good one ,” I sing a song of six pence and a pocket full of rye , 4 and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie , when the pie was opened , the birds begin to sing , wasn’t that a dainty dish to set before the king , The king was in his counting house counting up his money , the queen was in the parlor eating bread and honey , the maid was in the garden hanging out the clothes , when down came a blackbird and peak of her nose” dat last piece right der is what I gat strife with . Now you know she een gat no insurance , so she’ll be nose less for life , and to top it off dey een even piece of the pie dey bake man! Dats some serious darkness right der .

              • Ash says:

Omg. I remember when I was a kid, me and my friend who was two years older than me, were gonna sleep in a tent in the garden, and she told me that owls come out of night to bite people’s tongue off! So I got so scared we had to continue our sleepover inside!

Though how do ya know they don’t have free healthcare in this kingdom? I think if a bird bit my nose off, I’d get a new one for free, and I don’t have any insurance! πŸ˜›

          • Or , and Alyx jus so ya know I was smoking banana leaf mix with pussy willow πŸ™‚ Ya’ll gat plennie banana tree cross der where you is , try it gal , it make ya feel like slippin πŸ˜‰

            • Alyx says:

*LOL* I think I’ll pass on that one, Bahamagirl. I like my pussies free of leaves. πŸ˜‰

Ash, in case you’re still wondering about that nursery rhyme, this is from Wikipedia:
The most common version of the rhyme is:

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
              She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do;
              She gave them some broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.

The earliest printed version in Joseph Ritson’s Gammer Gurton’s Garland in 1794 has the coarser last line:

She whipp’d all their bums, and sent them to bed.

Those Brits, they’re so kinky! πŸ˜€

  12. bahamagirl1996 says:

Hey Alyx , dat tropical storm een near you aye? Kiko I mean , it look like it somewhere in the gulf heading by you? Check stock man , I ain want you to get catch with ya blinds open and the fridge dry.

    • Alyx says:

Sounds like Kiko is puttering out, Bahamagirl. But they say there’s another one behind it, so who knows! Don’t worry, though. Got lots of bottled water and batteries and a propane stove and canned goods. My biggest worry in any disaster is losing internet connection! πŸ˜†
I think your beautiful islands are generally more vulnerable to storms and hurricanes, though. So make sure YOU are prepared, hear?

      • Ash says:

Losing internet? All kinds of internet? I lost the wifi in my house a while back, after a bolt of lightning struck near my house, and it was a really sad couple of days…. I almost went mad. πŸ˜₯ I could only use my iPhone, and I prefer not to do all my interneting on such a small screen.

Ya know… if you lose all kinds of internet connection, I think it will cause panic! So be careful you guys, people can be vicious in emergencies. O_o

      • bahamagirl1996 says:

Now , you know how we do it down here πŸ™‚ The last storm that came thru here was gonna be here around 9 that night and 3/4 of Nassau was in the supermarket ( me included ) 7 buyin what we think we need until it passes. Let me tell you about my Bahamian people sweetie , from I know myself they Never take the storm too serious until they see what path it’s comin from. Almost everyone here has a generator , lanterns , batteries , canned goods and so on here on a regular basis , cause BEC ( Bahamas Electricity corporation ) also havin drama , so when the storm look like it really hittin fer true we go out and get extra fuel and stop by KFC . The biggest joke we have down here was during one storm some people broke until KFC an thief the CHICKEN MAN . Dey leave the safe with the money and carry , chicken , soda and apple pies. Let me tell you, we still laughin about that to this day and I think that happen bout 15 or so yrs ago. Be safe my friend.

      • Alyx says:

Well, Ash, at least you HAD internet! I don’t have a smart phone, so I’d be stuck. Good thing I like to read. πŸ˜€

And Bahamagirl, that’s hilarious, but you know there have been days I would give anything for some good fried chicken! *LOL* πŸ˜†

        • Ash says:

I would too, and we don’t even have KFC! Guess KFC don’t think it would sell… but they are wrong.

Right now I want fried chicken, and bacon, and chocolate, and ice cream… *leaving for the store* oh and chocolate sauce, and sprinkles and whipped cream.

  13. esspy says:

I really liked this one… Can’t figure out who the author is so please pass on my gratitude Alyx

Also happy holidays to y’all !

    • Alyx says:

Hey Esspy, long time no see! πŸ™‚ I will certainly pass on your compliments to the author….I’m sure she’ll be thrilled.

Happy Holidays to you too! Are you going to join us in our little gift exchange? You still have a few days left to throw together something! πŸ˜€

      • esspy says:

        Hey Alyx

Mad few months but happy to be back a little more πŸ˜‰ & hope you’re well?

Not sure I’ve the capacity to story tell though! Much as I wish I had the gift like you and many others here do!

        Happy hols!

        • Alyx says:

Everyone has the capacity to tell a story, Esspy! I know you have a blog and tell lots of stories there. πŸ™‚ But it doesn’t even have to be a story. A poem, a drawing, an essay on whatever subject appeals to you….these can all be gifts too.

However opening other people’s presents and exclaiming over them has just as much value, in my opinion, because you are contributing to the celebration. That’s a gift in itself, so thank you for sharing the gift of your presence and good wishes! *hug* Happy Holidays to you too!

          • esspy says:

Foiled on my own ramblings? Smiling in seriousness you are very kind Alyx.

I can’t really do creative writing. I wish I could like many talented folks around here. It strikes fear into me in the vein of “write a story about anything you like” when I was 5,8,11,16… And then stated blankly into space for long periods hoping something would happen. You get the picture. Now if you upload math or science problems- I’m your girl!

Wishing all very happy holidays !! Xoxo
