So let’s take a hypothetical situation and see how you all feel about it via a poll, shall we? 🙂
Say a top and a brat make a wager over whether the brat can complete a certain task by a certain time. It’s not the top’s idea to time it — she’s the one who expresses doubt that the brat will be able to do (for example) three different chores in half an hour. It’s the brat who insists she can, and says she’ll time it to prove it. The top agrees, but warns there will be a penalty for every minute over the half hour. She knows the brat usually underestimates the time it takes her to complete things. You’d think the brat, who has known herself faaaar longer than the top has known her, would realize this. But the brat (like many brats) is an eternal optimist.
Sure enough, the chores take 34 minutes to complete. Which actually impresses the top, but is nonetheless 4 minutes over. The penalty which the top imposes involves a smack with a hairbrush on the count of 4: (one)*swat* (two)*swat* (three)*swat* (four)*swat*….you get the idea. And then a extra hard swat whenever the number FOUR is mentioned. And this is the song which will be used to count out those smacks:

The reason for the grammatical error was that I typed something else and decided to change it and simply missed that one alteration. (Yes, I was going to say something else, edited, and the above comment is what I decided to go with. I probably am a bit insane.) And I did catch it pretty quickly, just not soon enough to stop the comment from posting. Shame there’s not an edit button, because I could have had it fixed within a minute if there was. (But I can also think of numerous ways to abuse the ability to edit, which means all the other brats can as well, so it’s probably best it’s not there.)
I’d blame the late hour and tiredness for part of my editing error, but then you’d just tell me to go to bed. 😉

Well, in all fairness, I did vote in the poll for “Is great! Creative and funny. The top’s a genius. :)” because I did think it was a good and sort of fun idea. But yeah, I did feel that some needling was in order. After all, I wouldn’t be a brat if I didn’t do a little bratting on rare occasion. I’ll keep the editing thing in mind for the future though because that’s good to know.
And, of course, as I have no bedtime, I think I’m safe in regards the idea of going to bed being suggested to me at the moment. 😀

Sandy, I can assure you that she WAS 100% certain she could do it in half an hour, otherwise she wouldn’t have offered to time it to prove it to me! *vbg* As I said in the post, brats tend to be wonderfully optimistic that way. 😆 And just think, she was doing this with the knowledge she’d have to pay a forfeit. So she was rushing like heck. Can you imagine how long it would’ve taken normally?? *snort*
If she had completed it within the time she said she was capable of, her reward would’ve been my admiration and the fact that I gave her such helpful motivation. But no thanks were necessary. Just knowing I contributed to getting her chores done is enough for me. *gratified nod*

I think you’re exactly right, Sandy. There SHOULD have been a forfeit for the top. Who waited until the brat bet she could do the chores in half an hour and THEN blindsided her by declaring there would be a forfeit if she failed. The brat, of course, thought the forfeit would involve baking cookies for the top or something like that, not getting smacked for several stingy minutes to a song from *shudder* Sesame Street.
So really, the problem was that the brat was a poor negotiator. That will not happen again. Thank you, Sandy, for your contribution to Brats’ Rights! 😀

Hi Micah, welcome to the blog! I’m sure Fizzy will be gratified to see another brat standing (“standing”…heheh 😀 ) with her in solidarity over this issue, but I think I was VERY nice! I helped her get her chores done, and added to her motivation. Without my assistance, who knows how long it would’ve taken her? Besides, didn’t you read her post? Unfortunately, I’m having the same problem, Becka. I was at work today working on my computer when I realized I was humming. It took a moment to realize what the song was and had to laugh at myself. Since then, I’ve found myself humming again, whistling, even murmuring the words… Argh… It could be worse – it could have been the BARNEY theme song…. Oh I SO don’t want that one to start in my head…
